The interface of the public and private sector in China

Workshop in Beijing on December 6, 2016, 2-5.45pm.
Venue: Park Plaza Beijing Science Park. 25 Zhi Chun Rd, Haidian District, Beijing.

Sponsor: Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research
Organizers: Anders Ryom Villadsen and Jakob Arnoldi – Aarhus University

The objective of this workshop is to develop an increased understanding of the inter-section of the public and private sector in China. The workshop will circle around theoretical questions such as:

  • Which dimensions describe what is public sector and what is private sector in China?
  • How can we understand interactions between sectors? How does the public sector affect business life? How does business life affect the public sector?
  • Political connections of firms have been widely studied but what other types of relations exist between sectors? Are such inter-sector connections also important for actors in public administration?

Besides this type of theoretical questions the workshop is intended to be practical and to hopefully fuel future research. So questions about research designs and relevant data will also be discussed.

We are aiming for a round table event with a select number of scholars who are expected to contribute with some short reflection on issues related to what is described above. We also invite participants to present any empirical results that can help illuminate the above issues. Hopefully the workshop can lead to further research collaboration or subsequent scholarly exchanges.
