My PhD project is “the Effect of Off-farm Employment on Agricultural Investment“.

This project is to evaluate the effect of off-farm employment on agricultural investment from the prospectives of agricultural labor,arable land, agricultural fixed assets and agricultural technical efficiency in the context of increasing off-farm employment in rural China.  The study is based on two data sets of agricultural household survey in rural China. The study methods of my project include the statistics, economic theory and econometrics tools. There are four objectives in my project:

1.Describe the situation of off-farm employment in rural China;

2.Examine the effect of off-farm employment on agricultural machinization in terms of the agricultural fixed assets and expendisure of agricultural mechinery service;

3.Examine the effect of off-farm employment on the concentration of arable land by the way of land renting activities;

4.Examine the effect of off-farm employment on the time allocation on farming from the perspective of gender;

5.Examine the effect of off-farm employment on agricultural technical efficiency.
